What is a good wide-Angle Zoom lens under a budget?

Hi,
I'm looking into getting a wide angle zoom lens for my Sony A55 DSLR and I have a budget of around $250-$300, preferably not more. I'm not looking for anything fancy because I'm just an armature in the field still, but something that isn't the cheapest thing out there (which would probably be an attachment)
My main requests for the lens would be (in this order):
-Wide angle zoom (not prime)
-Infinity focus (none of my current 3 lenses have that and I would really like to have it on my next lens)
-Price within budget

P.S, I've looked at the Tamron 10-24mm wide-angle zoom, and I really love it, but it's just too expensive for me, though it is a good example of what I would like in terms of hardware

I am a bit wondering about you stating that none of your lenses have infinity focus?

What do you mean by that?

All lenses should focus to infinity, unless you have some really bad lenses, or have gone the route of a lens adapter and are using a lens meant for a different camera.

At any rate, you would be better off fixing the infinity focus problem by buying just one good lens for your camera. Most of us amateurs can only afford one lens or so a year, so it is a process of saving for, then buying a lens one at a time.
