Lens Quality?
Hello. I have a Nikon D40. The camera body itself is great. Very Strong. But my question is, why are the lenses so crappy and chansey (sp?) I have had 2 Nikon 18-55 mm lenses, and both of them broke. Back in the day, with Film lenses, they were a lot stronger than today’s digital lenses.
I went to a camera store to see if I could get the lens fixed, and the guy said, the lens was bent. He said, just a little bang will bend these lenses now a days.
I want to buy another lens, i think its a 22-300mm is something like that lens, I’m not sure I forgot. Its suppose to have a wide angle and zoom on it. It is 600 dollars. I dont want to buy is if its going to break too. Because that is more than I payed for my Brand New Nikon D40.
Is there another lens that fits Nikon’s that is strong, and not the littlest bump will bend it.

The lens packaged with the D40 is a bottom lens. I prefer the Nikon 18-200MM VR lens. It sells fro around $750 but the VR allowes you to gain 2-3 stops compared to a non VR lens. I have been using one for near 2 years and shoot about 500-1000 shots a month. Tamron is selling an 28-300 lens with their equivelant of Nikon VR but I have no personal experiance with it.
